Basics
Networking: Connecting with other educators in and out of your field
Resource sharing: Ask and answer questions - locate a URL to an educational event or educational resource
Track conferences and discussions: Using hashtags follow tweets being sent by those attending a conference; Twitter discussions on a topic of interest
Class Twitter Group
Create a Twitter group for your class (you’ll need to use a different email address than the one from your personal Twitter account.)
If you want the group messages to be private - NOT viewable to the public, then register with
GroupTweet
Have students create their Twitter accounts
Require class members to follow the group - you will need to follow each student
Have students enable tweets on their mobile devices - probably the most popular to students
Class Uses
Class Announcements: Tweet to the Class Twitter Group - due dates, assignment updates, etc.
Research: Collect and share resources
Personal Info: Keep in touch - student-student and instructor-student, group members
Brainstorming: Students post their ideas and interact with one another
Polling: Create a quick poll and get even quicker responses - of your students or of your network - by Tweeting the question
Networking: Class group can follow other Twitter feeds that have direct relevance to class work, such as news feeds and other organizations.
Writing: Tweet as a famous person, story character, by creating a fictitious Twitter account; example,
http://twitter.com/darthvader
Field Trips: Use mobile devices to take notes on a field trip
Photo Sharing: Share photos on cell phones through
Twitpic
